What is molluscum contagiosum?

Molluscum contagiosum is a common skin complaint caused by the poxvirus. It takes the form of small, smooth flesh-coloured or pink bumps (usually the size of a spot or pinhead) scattered on the body. If irritated, the bumps can redden, leading to a dry, itchy rash.

The molluscum contagiosum virus usually affects several parts of the body at a time, with symptoms frequently appearing on the chest, back and legs, as well as the face, neck, eyelids, thighs, genitals, and buttocks. Molluscum is often mistaken for acne, as if the bumps are squeezed, they release a small white core similar to a whitehead.

Although Molluscum No More kills the molluscum contagiosum virus, it does not make you immune to it. What causes molluscum contagiosum?

In individuals with strong immune systems the disorder may resolve in a matter of months or years without treatment.

Caution: People with a weak immune system may have a rapidly progressive case of molluscum.
